Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim


Bio

Ibrahim served as the Chairman of Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission. In 2005, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim became the first individual to obtain a Doctorate in Business from the University of Cambridge since 1209. He took on the role of Honorary Consul for the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe in Nigeria. He founded the Energy Group of Companies, one of Africa’s largest conglomerates. He earned his Doctorate in Business from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Modern War Studies from the University of Buckingham.

After obtaining his Doctorate in Business from the University of Cambridge, he was elected a Senator for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Subsequently, he became the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interparliamentary Affairs on a global scale. In Geneva in 2023, he served as the interim President of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU). Currently, he holds roles as an executive member of the African Parliament and as a Member of the ECOWAS Parliament. He acted as the Nigerian Adviser at the recent interparliamentary meeting at the United Nations in New York. He actively participates in the annual ancillary meetings of the IMF and the World Bank.

Ibrahim is a lawyer with an MSc in the Mega Programme from the University of Oxford. He also possesses an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and a BSc (Hons) in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

He has a diverse portfolio of business interests, having founded a financial investment institution, namely Energy Commercial Bank Ghana (now known as First Atlantic Bank in Ghana) and Energy Bank São Tomé. The group’s other interests encompass insurance (NICON Insurance Abuja), hospitality (NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja and Lagos), reinsurance (Nigeria Re Insurance Corporation), and the oil and gas sector (Global Fleet Oil and Gas Limited in Lagos). Ibrahim’s business ventures also include establishing and licensing Worldwide Fortune DMCC in the United Arab Emirates, a prominent programme management consultancy focused on infrastructure development in Africa. One of Ibrahim’s initiatives involves the annual gathering of African leaders at presidential and ministerial levels to discuss the Infrastructure Development Funding for Africa (IDFA).

The Nigerian government has recently granted a license to the University of Fortune, which Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim established after his studies at the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge.
