Bio
Whether it’s in music, film, or business, the continent has undeniably profited from the hustle, and vision of artist-turned-executive Wale Davies. A global creative figurehead.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Wale transitioned from a finance career to co-found Show Dem Camp (SDC), one of the most influential rap duos to emerge from the continent. As one half of SDC, he pioneered the “Palm Wine Music” sound, a genre-defining movement that has garnered millions of streams and global tour success. His impact extends beyond the stage—he founded the Palm Wine Music Festival in 2018, which has since expanded internationally, with successful editions across the UK, North America, and Africa.
Beyond his achievements as an artist, Wale is also an accomplished director and producer, with over 30 music videos to his credit. He has collaborated with major brands such as Visa, Kenzo, Emirates Airlines, BBC, Farfetch, Carhartt, and Art X Lagos. His influence in film extends to co-producing the award-winning short film “Lizard,” which earned a BAFTA nomination and secured the Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
His expertise in talent development led him to the role of Head of A&R for Africa at Sony Music Publishing, where he spearheaded the signing of GuiltyBeatz, Lojay, Ladipoe, and more. He also organized two successful songwriting camps in Ghana, bringing together some of the world’s top musical talents.
However, one of Wale’s most impactful roles is as the manager of Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Tems, a global phenomenon redefining the sound of contemporary music. His sharp instincts for talent and industry trends have played a pivotal role in Tems’ meteoric rise, from her breakout hits to her Grammy win and widespread acclaim.
Dedicated to revolutionizing the African music industry, Wale’s influence has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, Oxford University invited him to speak at the 15th Annual Oxford Africa Business Forum, recognizing his contributions to the creative economy. Few individuals can seamlessly navigate between being a trailblazing artist and a key industry executive, but Wale Davies continues to push the boundaries, shaping the future of African music on the global stage.
